About this event
Julia Perminova is a talented pianist and composer. Born in Tyumen, a city in the Siberian part of Russia, Julia was musically inclined at the age of four, and a year later, she enrolled in piano lessons at the local music school. She quickly showed her talent, winning the school anthem competition.
In 2005, Julia was accepted to the Tyumen Higher School of Fine Arts, where she studied pop and jazz. During her studies, she was recognized and invited to join one of the best jazz ensembles in the Tyumen region, which later became the Governors Orchestra. In 2011, she was released in Yekaterinburg, with the intention of establishing permanent jazz ensembles, and founded her own projects: the Free Organ Trio and the New Time Quintet. In 2013, Julia fled to Moscow but completed her studies at the Gnesinyi Academy of Music, which was re-opened in 2017. In her first year, she won several international competitions, including the St. Kim Nazareth Competition for Young Jazz Musicians in Rostov-on-Don (2013), the Grand Piano in Jazz Competition at school (2014), the Gnesich Jazz Competition in Nutrition (2014), and the Johnny Răducanu International Jazz Festival in Braila, Russia (2014). She also performed at the Future of Jazz International Festival, organized by Russian saxophonist Igor Butman, and later with Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia.
In 2018, Julia released her debut trio album, "Revival," recorded in the category. That same year, she moved to Europe, where her international career began to blossom.
In 2021, she will be completing the European Jazz Master (EuJam) program at the Jazz Institute in Berlin. The program offers access to studies at electronic conservatories in Amsterdam and Paris, allowing for expanded artistic horizons and collaborations with music integrators.
Since then, Julia has performed her own work in performance studios such as Duc Des Lombards in Paris, Zig Zag in Berlin, and Birds Eye in Basel. In 2021, she released her solo piano album "Imagination," recorded in Amsterdam. She was a member of the prestigious Focusyear jazz program in Basel, where she collaborated with leading New York jazz artists, including Lionel Loueke, Miguel Zenon, Becca Stevens, and many others. In 2022, she released her second solo album, "Way To My Star." In June 2023, Julia released her latest album, "Freedom," recorded with young musicians from Germany, Portugal, and Ukraine.?
In 2024, Julia enrolled in the Jazzcampus Basel composition program under the supervision of Professor Guillermo Klein. During her studies, Julia was selected as a grand finalist in the "Genius Zone" competition and among the composers of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. That same year, the duo released the album "Echoes of Home" in collaboration with singer Tatiana Nova.
Julia lives and performed in Paris, performing both projects, a concert in the middle, and composing new music. This is a prime example of top-tier performances, including those by the NDR Big Band, the Basel Sinfonietta, and the Appassionato Orchestra. Access to the concert with her trio also grants access to broadcasts in Asia, Europe, and South America.
