About this event
The Graupe / Brendle / Terzić Trio is a niche and exceptionally sophisticated German jazz project that brings together distinguished instrumentalists and composers from the European improvised music scene. The band bases its work on a unique blend of modern jazz, minimalist structures, and profound rhythmic-melodic interaction. They occasionally invite the renowned saxophonist Philipp Gropper to perform with them.
Ronny Graupe (Guitarist) A virtuoso on the seven-string guitar: He uses his unconventional instrument to create rich harmonic textures, allowing him to simultaneously lead bass lines and complex solos. Key composer: He is known as the leader of the renowned band Spoom and founder of his own label, Out of the Shed. Playing style: The German press (including "Die Zeit") has described him as a "volcano of sound." Her playing combines technical precision, free improvisation, a lightness of form, and elements of classical music. Academic Activities: She teaches jazz guitar at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) in Switzerland.
Damaris Brendle (Vocalist) Instrumental Approach to the Voice: She works in a band as a vocalist and composer. She often forgoes traditional singing of lyrics in favor of vocalization and treats the voice as an equal melodic instrument. Minimalism: She introduces sparse means of expression into the trio. She emphasizes emotional rawness, intonation precision, and the natural weaving of the voice into the sonic fabric of the guitar and drums.
Dejan Terzić (Drummer) Master of Complex Rhythms: One of the most influential European jazz drummers. Renowned for his unparalleled ability to combine complex, asymmetrical rhythmic structures (e.g., Balkan rhythms) with incredible ease of playing. Acclaimed leader and composer: He directs his own projects, the most important of which is the award-winning AXIOM quartet. Prestigious awards: Winner of the prestigious German ECHO Jazz award for "Best Drummer" (2014) and numerous other international festival accolades. Academic activity: Like Ronny Graupe, he shares his experience as a professor of percussion at the HKB in Bern.
This trios music is a proposition for those seeking unconventional sounds, in which the traditional division between rhythm section and soloists is completely blurred. Ronny Graupe (guitar)
Damaris Brendle (vocalist)
Dejan Terzic (dr)
